Guide to Sharing Findings with Community Partners
Strategies for meaningful, ongoing communication throughout the research process
This guide supports researchers in communicating findings with community partners and other key stakeholders clearly and responsibly throughout the research process. It is grounded in a set of principles that helps center affected communities, prevent harm, and ensure data builds trust and drives fair outcomes.
REACH Data Management & Sharing (DMS) Plan Compliance
All scientific data generated through the REACH Center must comply with the Center's NIH-approved Data Management & Sharing (DMS) Plan. Under the NIH DMS Policy, scientific data refers to data needed to validate and replicate research findings. This includes the datasets, analysis scripts and code, documentation, metadata, and other materials necessary to reproduce published results.
For the REACH Center, these requirements apply to all Center-supported research activities, including the Center's two primary research projects, pilot projects, and any other studies or analyses supported by Center resources.
The Center's approved DMS Plan requires that, no later than the time of publication, all scientific data must be deposited on Zenodo or the Harvard/Boston University CAFE Dataverse, together with sufficient metadata and documentation to enable other researchers to understand and reuse the data.
To support investigators in meeting these requirements, the Center's approved DMS Plan is available along with a README template that can be adapted for individual projects. At a minimum, each README should describe the contents and organization of the repository, file and variable definitions, software requirements and version information, analysis scripts, model or simulation settings (where applicable), data sources, and any access or reuse considerations needed for others to reproduce the published findings. Acknowledgement of Funding and Services
Continued funding for the REACH Center depends on demonstrating its support for research responsive to the NIH Health and Extreme Weather Initiative. We encourage investigators to acknowledge the REACH Center in publications and other research products that have benefited from REACH funding, Core services, mentorship, collaborations, or other interactions with Center investigators and resources.
